Winter Nest Refuge Photo Peek in a nest box in late winter:
Late in winter, it is a good idea to clean out the nest boxes. Bluebirds begin seeking nesting sites in February. You may discover unexpected guests like these mice. There was a very strong smell of urine, too. The mice probably spent the winter sheltered in the box. Brainstorm: How could we keep the mice out of a nestbox during the winter?
