Monarch Caterpillars

Here is a very young caterpillar.

It is less than 1/2in. - one half inch long. That is about 1.25 centimeters.

It has a very soft, smooth body. As they grow the caterpillar molts. Molt means to shed their skin.

See the chewed off end of the leaf?

Observation tip: Ragged edges and chewed leaves are a good clue that something is eating the plant.
